Our comprehensive Puppy & Dog Services

The Puppy Program
Breed & Puppy Selection

  • We help you make a rational choice of puppy or dog based on your lifestyle and personality.
  • We also help you find a reliable puppy or dog source.

 

Pre-Puppy Planning

  • We help prepare you for your pup's arrival and first night.
  • We also recommend equipment and tell you where to put it and how to use it.


Puppy Nursery School

We provide an in-home course in puppy rearing for owners of puppies from six to sixteen weeks. Our course includes:

  • A Temperament Evaluation that will help you to raise a well-tempered puppy
  • Advice about optimum routine care including nutrition, exercise, grooming and socialization
  • Education on puppy behavior and development
  • Guidance in house and paper training including how to use a crate wisely and humanely
  • Problem solutions for house-soiling, nipping, unruliness, jumping up, destructive chewing, stealing, possessiveness and crying when left alone.
  • A Bite Prevention Program to prevent serious biting and to eliminate nipping.
  • Basic Training with gentle, fun on and off-leash method that work!

The Group Class Program

  • Puppy Kindergarten with Basic Obedience for puppies from three to five months of age.  Available seasonally.
  • Intensive Beginners Course for Puppies and Friendly Dogs.  This eight-week course combine Socialization with Basic Obedience.  Our fun-filled classes are small.  Family members are welcome.  Available year round.
  • Intermediate Course to complete your foundation work and create reliability in training.
  • The AKC Canine Good Citizen program for graduates of Beginners and for mixed breed and purebred dogs with Basic skill.
  • Recall clinic (come when called) in our garden and in Prospect Park.
  • Taking It on the Road:  an opportunity to brush up your skills in many environments including on the street and in the park.


Additional Services

  • Introduction to The City Dog to help you transform your newly acquired or rescued dog of any age into a family companion.
  • This can be a combined private and class program
  • Consultations on behavioral problems
  • Private Dog Training courses
  • Dr. Giella is available for lectures and seminars on various companion dog issues.
  • The Canine Research Service on all matters canine available by telephone or on the Internet.
  • The Apprenticeship and Internship Program in Behavioral Counseling and Companion Dog-Training.
