Our Philosophy:
A Modern and Comprehensive Approach

Modern companion dog training is the result of the combined influences of the science of canine behavior and animal learning with the concerns of the humane movement. It also reflects lifestyle changes of the past twenty years.

For example, the influence of dog behavior research can be seen in the emphasis on early puppy training. Scientific principles of learning are seen in the use of behavior modification techniques to solve problems and to put behaviors on command.

Modern dog professionals reject the harsh techniques of military dog training. Instead, they use kinder and more enjoyable methods. Finally, the aim of the modern trainer is to help owners raise a well-rounded family companion dog. No more hand-me-down military training techniques and old wives tales!

Why Should You Train Your Dog?

"Dogs will be dogs", if left to their own devices. They need guidance, just as human children do. If we expect dogs to be able to coexist harmoniously with us, we have the responsibility to teach then the skills to live successfully in the human habitat they have shared with us since they were domesticated so many millennia ago.

Companion dogs are made, not born!

Dog Training: When Should You Begin?

Dogs are learning all the time. However, the period between six and fourteen weeks is the critical period of socialization, during which they are most receptive to learning. This is when puppies should be systematically taught how to live with humans. However, dogs can be trained at any age.

Puppy Training
Why train a puppy?

Whether or not you choose to train your puppy early, he or she is inevitably learning from every experience and every interaction.   By taking an active role in your puppy's education, you can mold your puppy's personality and establish good behavior for a lifetime.

When should you begin?

The period between six and sixteen weeks is the critical socialization
period, during which puppies are most receptive to learning.  This is when
puppies should begin to be systematically taught how to live with humans.

What must new puppy owners know?

  • how to change natural, but annoying puppy behaviors such as chewing, nipping, barking, eliminating in the wrong place, jumping up, and not coming when called
  • how to modify these behaviors humanely in order to create a true companion dog.
  • how to prevent aggression by employing systematic gentling techniques
  • how to establish a proper leadership role using your brain rather than your brawn.
  • how to train your puppy for convenience, good manners and safety.

What must all city dog and puppy owners know?

  • How to raise an under-exercised, bored and often lonely puppy who cannot go out and play until vaccination is completed
  • How to raise a dog when nobody is home
  • How to raise a dog in an apartment
  • How to cope with distractions of city life, keep your dog safe from harm, and teach your dog to be a well-mannered canine good citizen.
