Educated Puppy, Dogs too. Barbara Giella, New York City, NY Companion Dog Training

Barbara Giella, Ph.D.

Barbara Giella, behavioral counselor, instructor and trainer, is a leader in the modern humane dog training movement in New York City. She was instrumental in the departure from harsh military dog training techniques to ones more suitable to puppies and companion dogs. She has been an innovator in the application of the sciences of learning and dog behavior to the raising of young puppies in an urban environment. She is a pioneer in holistic early puppy training. She is also a gifted teacher, who emphasizes positive reinforcement with both her human and canine students.

Barbara, a.k.a. Bobbi, has studied with leading experts in applied animal behavior therapy and dog-training, such as Ian Dunbar, Ph.D., Daniel Tortora, Ph.D., Peter Borchelt, Ph.D., Patricia McConnell, Ph.D., Karen Pryor, Polly Hanson Greenberg, John Rogerson and the late John Fisher.

She is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and is recommended by the ASPCA, The American Dog Trainers Network, The New York Dog Owners Guide, The Dogs' Guide to New York, The Great New York Dog Book and many veterinarians.

A former college art history professor, Bobbi's life was changed when she was given Ebunezer's Abigail Adams (1986-1997), her beloved Newfoundland dog.

"Animals are not brethren; they are not underlings; they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of Life and Time."
