Welcome to educatedpuppy.com where we will teach you some of the classic techniques of obedience training as well as some new exciting methods. Your dog wakes up at the beginning of every morning wanting to be your friend. It is your job as an owner to communicate so that the dog feels secure and aware. You have a new relationship that is very similar to that of a parent and child.

There is a place for obedience classes. But the problem is that a great many still train using old fashioned methods, in particular, the crank and jerk method. This is not a positive way to teach your dog. Motivation is the key to successful dog training.

Use treats and praise to reward your dog, this will encourage the dog to follow your command and show obedience. After a while you will want to phase out the treat, because carrying a pocket full of treats all day is just not possible, but the treat is a great place to start.

Teaching your dog tricks and obedience should be fun for the dog and you. It is important to remember to teach your dog in small doses, because a dog has a very short attention span. You want to teach your dog to become a safe member of your family and to enjoy training and enjoy the work.

Never hit your dog when you see them misbehaving. Remember, they do not mean to misbehave; they are simply doing whatever comes naturally. It is your job as an owner to show them how to behave and what you expect from them. A great way to teach a new puppy how to behave is to teach them to play with their toys. It will quickly become apparent which toy is their favorite. Then, when you see your puppy chewing on the furniture, firmly tell them "off" and show them their favorite toy, entice them away from the furniture with the toy and when they do so, praise them. The only way to train your dog is to be there when they misbehave. If you tell them off after the fact, this will only confuse them.

Once your puppy is at a certain level of obedience it is important to socialize them with other people and dogs. Dogs that do not interact with other dogs and people on a regular basis can grow up to be aggressive or extremely fearful. Schedule your puppy to attend socialization classes. This will let your puppy interact with other dogs and people in a controlled environment.

Finally, it is essential that you arrange a veterinarian appointment immediately with a new puppy. Puppies are susceptible to many diseases until they are fully vaccinated, so don't take your dog outside to interact with other dogs until all the vaccinations have been administered and your veterinarian says it is OK.
